Puebla
The road from Oaxaca City to Puebla was easily the best road we've been on here in Mexico. Modern, well maintained, and expensive for the average citizen. We paid a total of $180 pesos in tolls. It was more than worth it not to stop for topes every few kilometers. We ran out of cash before the last toll booth and pulled off the road at Teahaucan looking for an ATM. Got lost and found Alberto on his motorbike who with a huge grin led us through the streets and to a banco.
Puebla is huge with 1.3 million people. We're staying in the modern section of town on the 25th floor where our view includes the Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl volcanoes, Sam's Club, Burger King, and Walmart. We could be in Seattle.
Woke up late and ravenous and went across the street to a Bojangles Chicken and Biscuit restaurant. The owner, a gentleman from North Carolina told us that anyone from the US Southern states knows Bojangles. The biscuits were heart shaped, buttery, and delicious. This Southern gentlemen brought me the house specialty, a biscuit only made in Mexico; chocolate. I was thrilled to have my favorite comfort food mac and cheese for the 1st time in 2 months.
Tomorrow we head for the zocalo and all of the wonderful Talavera pottery, the many cathedrals and the culture Puebla is known for.
